Navier is a cutting-edge boat company specializing in the design and production of high-performance electric hydrofoil boats, focusing on sustainability and advanced technology. I was responsible for developing a cockpit dashboard experience in keeping with the high aesthetic and performance standards of the N30 craft as a whole.

From Navier’s website:

“Unparalleled Comfort // Bring adventure to life and indulge in the utmost luxury. With a spacious and HVAC enabled cabin, N30 embodies comfort at sea. Enjoy conversation on a silent and smooth ride without the roar of a motor.”

Our dashboard form embodies the bold styling of the Navier craft in a way that combines elegance with powerful agility, reflecting the advanced nature of the craft’s technology and capabilities.

“N30 is futuristic yet classic, combining luxury and high utility without compromising on performance. The futuristic multivariable day boat is perfect for fishing, water skiing, family outings and service as a unique yacht tender.”

Final Original Deliverable

1. Rimless Glass Panel
2. Document Compartment
3. Metallic Accents in keeping with Navier Branding
4. Additional Pockets
5. Controls

Aesthetic Guidelines

Navier’s brand identity was very well defined when the project came to us, and we had a clear visual style within which to generate concepts.

Unique brand elements identified:
1. Duotone silver/black color scheme
2. Style lines that tended to slant toward geometric
3. Trapezoidal shapes defining many structures, as in the side windows

Initial State

The initial exterior and interior sculpting for the Navier craft was generated by an independent design firm. Not satisfied with the initial designs for the interior cockpit, Navier’s leadership came to us seeking alternatives.

Ideations

My first concepts hewed relatively close to the ideas initially presented to us. In this way I familiarized myself with the basic elements that defined the Navier ‘look and feel’.

The company visual styling makes use of dark surfaces with varying textures alongside ‘metallic strip’ highlights. These elements stayed constant throughout the ideation process.

Early 3D Model in Solidworks

The client soon confirmed that they wanted to see concepts that struck farther afield in visual style, so the majority of our concepts reflected this directive.

Most concepts featured an assymetric screen arrangement, placing the primary screen directly behind the steering wheel, with the secondary screen to the left.

Multiple sketches were taken the extra step to 3D model for assessment. Presently the clients chose a final direction, and the selected concept was developed as Class A Surfacing for sharing with the shipyard and production.
